A while ago one of my Lyme friends went to her local ER for shortness of breath, chest pains, and trouble talking.  She has a complex health history like many pa substantiated by what medicine calls "evidence".

They did a physical exam and told her she had bronchitis and to go home.  She pushed for more testing, a proper evaluation of serious concerns.  The physician became irritable and asked, what is it you think you have?  My friend said, I don't know, that is why I am here, for you to figure out.  The physician left noticeably frustrated.

Tests were ordered and another physician came back.  There were abnormal findings suggesting a possible embolism.  An EKG was done. It was abnormal.

I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see this happen to people over and over again.  To go through this type of poor treatment myself.  Not just incompetence, but arrogant and condescending behavior not fitting of people we entrust our lives to in an emergency.  If they are so easily riled, so easily threatened, why are they choosing to be doctors?

Why do patients symptoms and questions carry so little weight in medical consideration?  Why are our lives so trivialized with reckless disregard?

Why are patients being treated so badly?

Has this happened to you?  What are your thoughts?
